It just seems the most odd because lots of lupus patients are allergic to sulfa and most lupus patients take plaquenil. I don't know. I may see another one anyway, if I can't get to the bottom of what's happening here soon. Feb 19, 2020 SIDE EFFECTS. The following adverse reactions have been identified during post-approval use of PLAQUENIL or other 4-aminoqunoline compounds. 6. I can say, however, that I have not had any cross allergic reaction to other drugs sometimes associated with sulfa allergies. Whether you try Plaquenil or not is ultimately up to you and your doctor, but a lot will depend on the type and severity of reactions that you've had. Rashes are certainly a lot less severe than respiratory reactions.

For Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease "I have been taking 200 mg of Plaquenil twice a day for 10 years. I get my vision checked every 6 months. I have had some thinning of my hair and can be nauseated in the morning if I don’t eat but these are minor side effects compared to the symptoms it is treating. Plaquenil and the Eyes hydroxychloroquine The classic finding is a bulls eye maculopathy--loss of the vision in a circle around the very center of sight. The problem with this vision loss is that it is not reversible, and it can sometimes progress for a period of time even after the plaquenil is stopped.

Has anyone experienced plaquenil toxicity with damage to eyes?
