    If you are taking Plaquenil to treat an inflammatory condition or malaria, you should be aware of the side effects that may occur to your eyes and vision. A complete blood count CBC is the most commonly performed lab test in the U. S. and is used to analyze red blood cells RBCs, white blood cells WBCs, and platelets. Many people with systemic lupus have abnormal CBCs. White blood cell counts can be low leukopenia due to lupus, immunosuppressive therapy, or the presence of a virus. I am having flare up currently fatigue and cognitive function/depression being my bigger problems and most recent blood tests show white blood cell count amongst other things. I take a Hydroxychloroquine, an antidepressant, and Vitamin D - was going to start mycophenolate but the low WBC has prevented this.

    In October 2012, I was also diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome but, as I was already taking Plaquenil, was advised the treatment was the same for Sjogrens. I was diagnosed with discoid lupus 18 years ago and was prescribed Plaquenil, which I have taken since then.
