    Is plaquenil safer than methotrexate

Yesterday my rheumatologist started me on hydroxychloroquine as well. Is anyone else on this combination and have you had any problems with it as I know hydroxychloroquine can cause eye sight problems.

    Define plaquenil Hydroxychloroquine sulfate scleroderma

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is used to treat malaria, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Learn about side effects, warnings, dosage, and more. Other than that I have had some GI issues when the Plaquenil was increased, but I seem to now be adjusting to it as well. Both have really helped as my inflammation markers are now back in the normal ranges in my blood work--they were 600 times normal before I began. I still have joint pain, but it is much less than before. Was the plaquenil controlling your RA symptoms? The trouble is you lose hair on Methotrexate too. But after losing heaps when I first went on it, I have stabalised now, I have thinner hair but it still looks fine and healthy. If plaq was working for your symptoms I'd go back on it. If you feel like the RA is escallating then go for mtx.

Recently my eyes have felt sore and, after posting a question on this site, I am seeing my GP on Monday. Thanks Hi Catjones I have been taking this combination, started on both of them in January this year.

Sorry to hear that you are having a lot of pain with your RA. I have lupus which mainly affects my joints and skin. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine takes up to 3 months to begin working. January 2, 2013. One Chick is looking for your advice on medication My Rheumatologist recommended Methotrexate for my RA which I haven’t started taking yet because I was waiting until after the holidays in case I have side effectshowever she mentioned Plaquenil but she felt the Methotrexate is better for my RA. The fatigue is still considerable on some days, but overall I feel 110% better than I did. I was unable to work before taking these drug and now I am back to working full time and I spent this entire weekend enjoying my grandkids! I have also been able to step the prednisone bake to no more than 5 Mg every two days which is a big plus.
