Can i take tums with plaquenil

It says on the bottle I can’t take an antacid for at least four hours after taking the Plaquenil. I hate heart burn:( I take a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) essentially antacid in the morning that is supposed to last all day. I would ask your pharmacist first and see if it matters whether it is just a 'tums' or medication strength. I think if it keeps happening I’ll go talk to my pharmacist to see what they recommend. Has anyone else experienced heartburn while taking Plaquenil and if so what did you do to avoid or ease the heartburn? If they are not able to give you an answer your Family Dr or Rheumatoid will know. Fortunately the heartburn goes away after a few hours, but those few hours are very uncomfortable!

It is best to separate these medicines by at least 4 hours. Do not cut, crush or chew this medicine. You can take it with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, take it with food. Aug 26, 2017 You can avoid this problem with the following steps Don't take calcium supplements or antacids at the same time you take thyroid hormone replacement. Take any products containing calcium at least four hours before or after taking thyroid hormone replacement. Feb 19, 2020 Avoid taking an antacid or Kaopectate kaolin-pectin within 4 hours before or after you take hydroxychloroquine. Some antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb hydroxychloroquine. What other drugs will affect hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, Plaquenil Sulfate, Quineprox? Hydroxychloroquine can cause serious liver or heart problems, especially if you use certain medicines at the same time, including other medicines to treat malaria; an antibiotic or antifungal medicine; antiviral.

But that's just the optimum way to take it, not the necessity. Sometimes what is suggested (no antacid for 4 hours) is not necessarily required if it means you can't or don't want to take your plaquenil anymore. the antacid will affect the absorption of the plaquenil and the amount your body can absorb.
